3D Systems completes 100,000 medical cases, deal with Stryker for 3D printed medical models

is to offer its Virtual Surgical
Planning (VSP)
technology and range of 3D anatomical
models through medical technology firm Stryker.

The distribution partnership will also see
Stryker distributing 3D Systems’ cranio-maxillofacial models.
Like VSP, this technology can also reduce the time taken to
complete operations.

3D modeling and 3D printing for surgical

VSP is an FDA-cleared technology system that
facilitates personalized surgery. It involves taking multiple
CT scans of patients to create detailed 3D imaging. This can
then be used to make surgical guides, templates, and 3D

Since the technology is service-based, 3D
Systems biomedical engineers are on hand to discuss the
surgical planning with the surgeons, before patient-specific
models, guides, and case reports are generated.

3D Systems has provided VSP or anatomical
services in more than 100,000 cases, including
facial reconstruction surgery

A clear 3D visualization of patient

As the exclusive provider of 3D Systems’ 3D
medical models and VSP, Stryker will now offer VSP
Orthognathics, VSP Reconstruction, and VSP Cranial

“With the advancement of 3D printing, combined
with the surgeon’s ability to use our Virtual Surgical Planning
and anatomical modeling technologies, a patient’s life can be
forever changed,” said Kevin McAlea, executive VP, general
manager of metals and healthcare, 3D Systems. He added

“It provides surgeons with the ability to
have a clear 3D visualization of a patient’s anatomy and to
develop a customized surgical plan prior to even entering the
operating room.”

“This partnership allows us to better support
the rapidly evolving needs of our customers and accelerate
innovation in the area of personalized medicine,”
added David Mercado, VP and general manager of Stryker.
“We are very pleased that 3D Systems chose us as their
long-term collaborator in this space.”
